Yatate Cedar at Sasago Pass
This giant cedar is reputed to be over 1,000 years old. Its name is said to come from samurai shooting arrows at it for luck in battle as they went off to war during the Warring States period. Famous artists like Hokusai and Hiroshige II of the late Edo Period left paintings and ukiyo-e prints depicting this tree.
