Mt. Takao: Yakuo-in Buddhist Temple
This temple of the Shingon sect of Buddhism was founded on Mt. Takao some 1,200 years ago. The principle deity of the temple is Izuna Daigongen, a manifestation of Fudo Myo-o, the fierce form of the Buddha Vairocana. Prayers are offered daily to the deities of the temple with wooden tablets that are burned. Throughout the year, many people come to the temple to pray alongside the priests for solutions to their worries or for wishes to come true.
